Please come to our next demo on 14 December

Save our greenspace for future generations

Thanks so much to everyone who supported our last demo on 23 November, asking our councillors to vote against the adoption of the environmentally damaging Borough Local Plan.

In response to hundreds of people from our community showing their support for our campaign to protect the green belt land of Maidenhead Golf Course from development, our council has decided to schedule an Extraordinary Full Council meeting on 14 December to vote on the Borough Local Plan – even though they cannot be sure that the final report will be with them by then. Just in case they have also asked councillors to keep 21 December free!

We believe that those in the council that want this Borough Local Plan to be adopted no matter what, are rushing this through to try to secure its adoption as soon as possible, before our campaign has the chance to gain any more awareness and momentum.

Please come back to the Town Hall at 6.30pm on Tuesday 14 December

Therefore we would like to ask you all to come back to the Town Hall 6.30 to 7.30pm on Tuesday 14 December for another peaceful demonstration.  We are again asking our councillors not to adopt this damaging plan for our community, which goes against all the steps we must take to prepare for the worsening effects of climate change.

Although we cannot be sure that the meeting will go ahead because this is being rushed through, we want to give everyone the opportunity to show the strength of feeling against this Borough Local Plan, because we have all been ignored for so many years…

Regarding the status of the Borough Local Plan, on 25 November 2021, the planning inspector’s programme officer said: ‘The Inspector has now submitted her report to the Planning Inspectorate where it is going through an Internal review process.  Once this has completed, it will go to the Council for fact checking.  It then gets sent back to the Inspectorate and then the final report will be sent to the Council.’

We think this might take longer than two and a half weeks, but we have to take the opportunity demonstrate our wishes on the night of 14 December anyway.

Remember, the golf course land is owned by the people of Maidenhead

The golf course land is publicly owned – so it belongs to us, the people of Maidenhead.  It’s vital we protect this space from development so it continues to provide vital wildlife habitats, be our green lung and a place for water storage. We must protect it so that future generations will be able to choose how best to use this parkland for the wellbeing of our community, including protecting biodiversity, tree planting, water storage, community activities and public amenity.

  1. The environmental damage that the council will cause will last for generations to come, we cannot let them get away with this.
