Over 100 people attended our community consultation event on Saturday (22 February 2025), backing the our proposal to bid for sections of the land, including Maidenhead MP Joshua Reynolds, and local councillors George Blundell and Helen Taylor.
Last November, Maidenhead golf course was designated as an Asset of Community Value (ACV), by the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM), giving the people of Maidenhead the option to bid for the land, or part of it.
Tina Quadrino, chair of the Maidenhead Great Park campaign group, explains:
“We’re absolutely delighted with the positive feedback and engagement from local people visiting our event on Saturday. Everyone wants to protect the wildlife and make the most of the greenspace and woodlands owned by our council. They want to see a larger buffer zone around the ancient woodland at Rushington Copse and wildlife corridors connecting the woodlands of the golf course with greenspace at Braywick and Ockwells.
“Lots of people said they would back an appeal to raise money to purchase golf course land and many wanted to know what’s going to happen to the land after the golf club has left at the end of the year. They’re keen to help us look at meanwhile uses before development starts.
“Our next steps are to explore options for the purchase and management of as much of the woodlands and greenspace as possible, for example via a Community Land Trust or charity partnership.
“As ever, we would welcome more people to join our campaign and help us find a way forward.”
